I  sit exhausted in the window seat of the plane.  Just sit there as the stewardess explains for the billionth time how a safety belt buckles and opens.  I am staring mindlessly out of the window, watching luggage carts speed past on the tarmac.

Allume 2012 has been a wonderful conference, with lots of hugs, laughter, learning and little sleep.  I feel fortunate to be on a flight that has not been canceled.  Hurricane Sandy is heading quickly towards the East Coast and I am on one of the last fights out of Pennsylvania.

Words and phrases from amazing speakers roll through my mind, as the g-force presses me into my seat at takeoff.

Waves of wind, and rain hit the plane and causes the plane to jump and rock, and I clinch the arms of the seat as if they can do something significant to stabilize this rocket with wings.  Finally, we reach our cruising altitude where the air is a little calmer…but not completely void of air pockets.

I pull out my camera and begin to take pictures of the clouds – Just something I do to pass the time.  Observing these clouds, so menacing looking, hanging there suspended between earth and heaven – I am in awe of God, the original artist of all.

“Where did you get the inspiration for all of this beauty, Lord?”, I whisper as the camera, click, click, clicks away.

It is then, that I see a completed rainbow – the full sphere, there on the clouds. Though you cannot see it in these pictures, the shadow of our plane was in the rainbow. Then I am aware of a shadow formed by the clouds, giving the impression of a hand holding the plane.  For half an hour I watch the sphere outside of my window!

God was there – at the conference, in the bumps and rocking of the plane; in the rising and drops of air pockets; in the peaceful bliss of the high altitudes, and in the final embrace of my husband as I enter the airport at home.  He is always here, holding us with his mighty right hand – flexing his mighty muscles for the one He loves.

“and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.  And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.” (Revelation 4:2-43 NIV)

I am going to Allume again this year! If you are going, I would love to meet you face to face!
