December brings us hints of beauty, great anticipation and wonder in celebration of the birth of Jesus – the true treasured Christmas gift. Everywhere we turn songs remind us of His amazing love as we exchange crosses for nativities.
It would be years before the world carefully unwrapped this gift to understand. What would it be like to enter the hearts and minds of those who knew Him? Those Jesus knew by name? I can almost hear them praising the Lord with burning hearts singing, “Oh! What a great love is this?”
Oh What a Great Love!
by Chris Malkemes
They were with Jesus
Heard Him
Saw Him
Felt His answered prayers
They walked with Jesus
Knew Jesus
He knew them by name
Judas betrayed Him
Cock crows twice
Peter denies Him
And yet He died for them
A gift
A treasured gift
Secure in Him
They were with Jesus
Saw Him risen
Asend on high
Received the Holy Spirit
A gift
A treasured gift
Salvation realized
Generations upon generation
Never the same
He’s alive!
A gift
The ultimate gift!
Eternity!
Now we can be with Jesus
See Him
Feel Him
Watch Him
Live to walk with Him
know Him
Be known by Him
Known by name
A gift
The love gift
Jesus!
See what great love the Father hath lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1a

A beautiful posting and expression for this time of year when we celebrate the gift of new birth and focus on the greatest Gift of all. Thanks, Christine!
Lynn. I know. I was so overwhelmed by this great love I had to write a poem. I know it’s not traditional but it would be years before the we unwrapped this gift of love and imagine this…..it’s opened every day of the year.
“What wondrous love is this, O my soul!”
Thanks for bringing to mind this song with your stirring words, Chris.
The gift of Christmas is truly the whole of the gospel message.
Michele, what a rich legacy we have to say we know this Jesus – not just on Christmas day and in the Book of Luke – but every day of the year. I knew you would understand it is the gospel message for sure!
Chris, thank you for the lovely poem, and you remind me that Jesus IS the Christmas gift. If we would receive Him only, we would receive enough. God bless you, and have a very Merry Christmas, as you focus on Him, the LIFE (literally) of the party.
Love
Lynn
Lynn! You’re a treasure “in deed.” You’ve got it right. This poem was written as I imagined what it would like to know, walk and touch His hand. A gift given, treasured and He meets all our needs for life. Love you too
