It’s Five Minute Friday, and today’s prompt is FRIEND.

Ready, Go!

I’m really not sure how it all began.  I commented on her blog, she commented on mine.  It really might have begun right here on Five Minute Fridays.  One of us found the other by commenting on the person who posted right before us. Just being curious, and using blog linking etiquette and a new friend is found.

I had just journeyed into the friendship desert; a vast open plain filled with cactus and coyotes, which God calls us to sometimes to be alone with Him.

But in the desert, God provided an oasis in Susan.  She is the first friend I had ever met online.  I still remember warnings that would come from family about meeting strangers online:

“They come to your house at night, don’t you know, and kill you in your sleep!”, is what one woman in the family would say.

Susan and I have so much in common, and we get to have real life hugs when we meet up at conferences. Living in different areas of the country keeps us from having lunch together once a week, but it doesn’t keep us from talking at length!  We laugh at the same things about life.  The more I am around her the more I’m convinced that we are sisters, separated at birth.  We both entered our Empty Nest phase of life close to the same time.  We were both writers and speakers, and she has crazy good computer skills.  Who doesn’t need a friend like that in your life?

Of all the pictures I have in this world, I never seem to get any with Susan.  I think its because we get to busy talking and then its time to go.   We will be at Allume together this year so hopefully there will be a picture of us together!

More times than not,  finding a friend means living life animated, free in Christ, and authentic about who you are, willing to say, “Hi, I’m Diane, tell me about yourself”, and to be willing to do the same.
