It’s Five Minute Friday, and today’s prompt is FRIEND.
Ready, Go!
I’m really not sure how it all began. I commented on her blog, she commented on mine. It really might have begun right here on Five Minute Fridays. One of us found the other by commenting on the person who posted right before us. Just being curious, and using blog linking etiquette and a new friend is found.
I had just journeyed into the friendship desert; a vast open plain filled with cactus and coyotes, which God calls us to sometimes to be alone with Him.
But in the desert, God provided an oasis in Susan. She is the first friend I had ever met online. I still remember warnings that would come from family about meeting strangers online:
“They come to your house at night, don’t you know, and kill you in your sleep!”, is what one woman in the family would say.
Susan and I have so much in common, and we get to have real life hugs when we meet up at conferences. Living in different areas of the country keeps us from having lunch together once a week, but it doesn’t keep us from talking at length! We laugh at the same things about life. The more I am around her the more I’m convinced that we are sisters, separated at birth. We both entered our Empty Nest phase of life close to the same time. We were both writers and speakers, and she has crazy good computer skills. Who doesn’t need a friend like that in your life?
Of all the pictures I have in this world, I never seem to get any with Susan. I think its because we get to busy talking and then its time to go. We will be at Allume together this year so hopefully there will be a picture of us together!
More times than not, finding a friend means living life animated, free in Christ, and authentic about who you are, willing to say, “Hi, I’m Diane, tell me about yourself”, and to be willing to do the same.

That it so awesome! Here from FMF! Have a beautiful weekend.
Thank you for stopping by Mary!
… and you are blessed, Diane …
Yes I am, Linda. And you taking the time to leave a comment has blessed me even more!
A friend is a true treasure.
Denise, you are an online friend. You are always leaving comments around to people encouraging them! You are a treasure!
Love the way God brings us together with people on-line. I never would have thought you could have deep intimate friendships with someone you’ve never even hugged in person. So glad I got to meet you Diane, you are truly a gift. And I just bought my ticket to Allume. *squee*
Shelly, I know! I would have never thought this possible as well. Loved being with you this weekend and hope that we will have time together again sometime soon!
I don’t think you intended this to be funny, but the thought of Susan breaking into you house at night to kill you in your sleep just tickled me and I’m all giggly now.
I love how Allume, Incourage and all these other spaces have brought us all together. Looking forward to hearing your lovely voice again this weekend. 🙂
Yes, can’t you just see me… sneaking and stalking… using my Visa to jimmy the lock on her door…
Hey wait, I’d never do anything to scratch my Visa! 😉
Yea, but you can get that Sam’s card replaced easy enough! ( laughing) I just know its too far for you to drive – Not that you have a diabolical bone in your body! Love you Girl!
Amy, I didn’t intend to be funny, but now that you have pointed it out, its hilarious! Can’t you just see her sneaking around. I’m bent over laughing, just picturing it!
Wow, Di – you have no idea what a blessing YOU are to me. And this post? TIMELY. I’ve been a tad whiny lately (iPhone crash among other things). Last night I asked the Lord to send me a special squeeze soon, and HERE YOU ARE, first thing this morning!
And I’m squeezing you back! I’m so thankful He crossed our paths – however He did it – and so glad to call you friend. And the next time we’re together, we’ll be sure to litter Instagram with at least a dozen “selfies”
Love youuuuuuuu
How sweet! You are so blessed in your friend!
Brie, You have blessed me today as well! Thank you for coming by, I hope to hear from you again!
