This should make you laugh!
This weekend I attended a Christian Writers Boot Camp held at Beeson Divinity. My dear friends Denise George and Carolyn Tomlin teach the workshop. I have dressed nicely because I will be recognized for my book String of Pearls.
Running through the parking lot with my bag of books, purse, and note pad, I try to hold onto an umbrella that the wind finds attractive. I arrive at the building. My new black skirt and suede boots are now glistening from finding favor with the rain. The hair spray that held my hair in its straight position has succumb to the moisture and will re-dry with my natural frizz!
Walking into the room I see the smiling faces of Denise and Carolyn. Thankful to be indoors, I give them both a hug. Then, I fall down the first step spilling my coffee all over the wall.
Feeling over dressed for the job, I get on my hands and knees and wipe down the wall.
Looking up from my humble position, I see Dr. Timothy George, the Dean of Beeson. This is not the way to begin this workshop!
After greeting Timothy, I find my way to a chair.
Everyone who has published a book this year is honored with a framed cover of their book and recognition of their accomplishment by Dr. George. I was able to make my way onto the stage and walk across without any problems.
The workshop is great, as usual. They teach us a little about blogging, self-publishing, and writing grants to make money at home.
As I gather my belongs to leave, I turn to walk back up the stairs. Yep, you have guess it!
I fell up the stairs. Don’t ask me how I fell up, I just did! (It is okay to laugh.)
Proverb 24:16 “For the rightous man falls seven times, and rises again, but the wicked stumble in time of calamity.
At least I did not fall seven times, or fall in time of calamity, though it was beginning to feel that way. I did rise again, so I guess I am doing okay.
I hope this story brings a smile to you today. You know I love hearing from you, so tell me, what was your latest funny story?

That’s AWESOME, Diane — I once tripped and fell backwards into a birthday cake at work! And just so you know, I would’ve helped you wipe down the wall 🙂
Hugs from VA
(laughing) We are two peas in a pod!
Susan one day we will meet face-to-face and I can hardly wait! I already know that you would be in that humble place in your cute outfit with me !
Ah, the moments that wake you at three a.m. and cringe… 🙂
I know I know!
Oh yes. We’ve all gotta love those kinds! For me, it was when I was a teacher and my allergies were acting up. My nose dripped on a student’s paper as I helped them with the assignment. Fortunately it was with my jr. highers, so the kid just looked up at me with a deadpan face and said “that was really gross, Mrs. Wallin” and went on with his life. I still wake at 3 about that one! 🙂
Oh, how I feel your embarrassment or maybe you weren’t. But thank God our idenitity is not based on the reputation of how we navigate steps! Congratulations on the acknowledgement of your book. Blessings to you!
Thank you, Shelly. It was embarrassing, but I have learned the joy of laughing at myself.
That is classic. 🙂
I’d love to hear more about this writer’s retreat. Or is it by invitation only? It sounds great.
