Cicadas and crickets serenade us with their evening and morning praise, as heat thick and moist rises and falls in the summer heat. Dove cooing accompanies the symphony of sound as I sit at the water’s edge and watch the amazing creation awake and nestle down for rest each day.

Tree frogs croak as percussions in the background, and I inhale the sweet fragrance of summer all around me. And it is time to surrender summer and begin life learning.

School begins next week for teachers and students. The enchantment of summer ends as the discipline of life begins again. Somehow, playing with the children in the water, on the sandy beach, and with bowls of ice cream renews my own youth and memories of summer.

Oh, how my heart desire  them to stay and play and skip school.

Yet, my words ring back to me through the voice of my daughter.
I am a life learner, and I will teach my children to do the same,” (tweet this)

We teach our children to observe life each day, to listen to Christ speaking to them, and, to learn how to care for His world and all it contains.

God encourages us to be life learners. He calls the moon close to his side and nestles it down to sleep. He elbows the sun each morning to tickle at our eyelashes, causing them to flutter open and discover the new in each day.  The day that He has created.

He encourages us to learn to know of Him.  Knowing of God, and His son, Jesus, we begin to understand His ways, and walk in them.

And, Walking in the ways of the Lord, keeps us safe from our enemies.

But if they do not listen, they will perish by the sword and die without knowledge. (Job 36:12 NIV)

For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly. (Proverbs 5:23 NIV)

The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense. (Proverbs 10:21 NIV)

My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.

“Because you have rejected knowledge,
I also reject you as my priests;
because you have ignored the law of your God,
I also will ignore your children. (Hosea 4:6 NIV)

How do you encourage your children to be life learners?
