This morning the two-year old is looking for Nant Ninny (Aunt Cindy).
“Where Nant Ninny?” asks T.
“On a boat”, I say.
“Boat? Where?”
“Way out in the Ocean”
“Oh, No!” he responds, then turning to the ocean he yells, “NINNNNYYYYYY!”
The ocean seems so vast and infinite. It is a place that he is not allowed to adventure into alone. Yet Ninny was out there – somewhere in the great beyond, and he couldn’t see her.
We laugh; it is difficult to understand that just because you can’t see someone, doesn’t mean they are gone forever.
I think I feel that way about prayer sometimes. I call out to God but He seems to be out in a boat, waaaaaaayyyyy out in the middle of an infinite ocean where I cannot reach him.
David knew this feeling as well.
“Hear my cry, O God; Give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to Thee, when my heart is faint; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalms 61:1-2
But then the man after God’s own heart continues with facts about who God is, not how it feels.
You are my refuge, you are my strength against my enemy, you hear, you are my inheritance, you prolong my life, I abide before you forever. paraphrased from Psalms 61:3-8
Sometimes when God seems so very far away from the struggles that we are feeling, then it is time to pray facts about who He is instead of facts about where we are.
He doesn’t need us to remind Him of who He is, we need to remind ourselves of who He is. This is call worship. It is simply recalling, and re-calling to mind who He is into our situation.
You Lord God, are the great I AM, and there is nothing too difficult for you! Amen

A profound word: pray facts about who He is instead of facts about where we are.
Thanks, Di!
Thank you, Susan. Worship is a foundational lesson God taught me years ago. It is funny how the mind leaks and needs to recall the lessons once learned.
Amen, very well said.
Thank you Denise
Yes, that IS what prayer sometimes feels like. I’m glad to know I’m not alone when it comes to long periods of waiting in prayer, feeling like God is somewhere waaaaay out there.
I’m going to She Speaks and Allume this year for the first time. I hope to meet you there! 🙂
Thank you for commenting Denise Hughes. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
