Our name for God today is Jehovah-Shammah, My God who is there. (Ezekiel 48:35)
I think one of the greatest struggles this side of heaven is believing God is really there, active, aware and loving us as fully as he promises in His Word.
Our life history has times of loss, or betrayal or feelings of abandonment by someone and we superimpose this human behavior onto God.
As I have been looking through the Bible for places where we see Jehovah-Shammah, I find walls were being built. Walls around the temple for Him to protect and dwell with His people. You are the temple by which those walls of protection are built around so, He can protect and dwell with you.
Sometimes we might try to build walls between God and ourselves, unknowingly, because we think we are on our own and need to defend our lives and our family. Walls of separation are holding tightly to money instead of giving to God. Walls can be fighting for recognition instead of allowing God to be glorified in us. Walls that separate us from God are walls we try to build to achieve position, fame, or advantage. These walls separate us as opposed to protecting us.
But, God’s love will not allow anything to separate Him from the ones He passionately loves. He passionately loves you!
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? – For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:35,38-39) Please read this slowly, even though you have heard it before. Allow Christ breathe new life into your reading today.
You are precious in his sight, and His desire is to dwell with you here, now, and in this present place.
Christ fought battles in heavenly places to make you His own and to dwell with you because you are His bride, His beauty, His great love.
When you are aware of His presence in the room, is there any greater peace? Is there any greater joy? Is there any greater awe?
Today, let’s practice an awareness of His presence. He is Jehovah-Shammah, our God who is there.
How can I pray for you today?
